A vacuum cleaner is something that almost every home will require especially if you have plenty of carpets.  The great thing about vacuum cleaners these days is that they can also be used on floors such as tiles and wood.  This is not something that was possible a few years ago when vacuum cleaners were mainly used for cleaning carpets.  Nowadays, if you have a wooden floor in nearly every room in your home, you can use a vacuum cleaner that will work on all floors instead of having to get the sweeping brush out which will take longer.  When it comes to buying them, you will find that there are a number of options.  You can look for cheap vacuum cleaners or more expensive ones but before you rush out to buy one, the following are a few tips which might help you with your decision.

It is important to decide whether a handheld vacuum cleaner or a full size one is right for you.  If you have a large home with plenty of carpets, then you may want to get a full size vacuum cleaner or you will be down on your hands and knees for the day.  A handheld cleaner is really best for small areas or for doing spot cleans.  They are not as powerful as the full size model, and would therefore not be appropriate for cleaning an entire house.  Some people will buy both a full size vacuum cleaner for cleaning the whole house and a handheld model for little messes.

Where you are going to be using the vacuum cleaner most is another thing to bear in mind.  This will allow you to decide on the most suitable type of vacuum for your needs.  For example, a canister vacuum cleaner will allow you to get into tight corners because you will be using the hose to clean the house rather than the actual machine as you would in the case of an upright model.  The thing about uprights however, is that they will often provide you with the option of using a hose for these specific areas.  And an upright is usually better for a large open space.

How powerful the vacuum cleaner is should also be considered.  If you have areas with high traffic, then you will need to have a fairly powerful vacuum cleaner but if you don’t have children or pets and your floors don’t get that dirty, you may get away with a less powerful model which will save you money.

The budget you have to spend will determine which vacuum cleaner you can buy.  Some vacuum cleaners are very expensive but the good news is that there are plenty of cheap vacuum cleaners out there that work very well.
